About the Studio
Thanks and welcome to the studio website.
I’m Michael Livingston McAuley, Owner of Livingston Designs Sculpture Studio, located in downtown Bloomington, Indiana. Please have a look around at some of the latest projects we've been involved with. Through a strong background in both formal education and personal practice of art and design, the resultant visuals have been achieved by integrity, creativity in design and innovative research. We pride ourselves in providing the best visual solution for commissions.

This studio is based in the sculptural tradition of the figure even as earlier work was semi-abstract/ abstract consistent with the “flavor“ of the period. Additionally, the founding of the studio originally relied on commercial work principally in design and photography (see the studio's legacy) in order to facilitate the sculptural. This experience is credited with bringing a subtle yet solid stylistic aesthetic to all present sculpture work. This benefit is felt in the occasional consulting needed to visualize and produce marketing materials or branding for sculpture client needs. An example of this may be viewed in the materials accommodating the life-size Hoagy Carmichael Bronze Sculpture.

Commission work is always valued and consultation is always free. It is in this initial brainstorming to “flesh-out” clients concepts and ideas which offer some of the greatest interest for the studio and benefit for the client. It is highly recommended for the studio to be brought in early as clients start the process of considering both the direction of the commissions appropriateness to the vision and the more pragmatic construction/placement issue concerns. This issues usually have a direct bearing on costs involved.

The studio’s common workflow is to brainstorm for a design idea with the client (if needed), to sculpt or fabricate, cast in-house or use foundry, then install. Marketing materials may be designed and assembled to promote the unveiling event while conveying a distinctive image surrounding the sculpture. This may be produced at any point during the commission process, as needed. One-of-a-kind sculpture, limited editions, and mass sales are produced by the studio.

We encourage all prospective clients to compare other sculpture studios for both visual beauty and academic integrity when searching for a commission candidate. This is art, and a bronze sculpture is especially expensive. It is extremely important the end resultant sculpture will stand the test of time for the widest spectrum of knowledgeable and less than knowledge-able viewers.
